Japanese Skimmias are beautiful, classic evergreen plants. They are native to the warm temperate regions of Asia, but still manage to thrive in the UK. Their fruit, which appears in autumn, form small dense beadlike clusters and a few months later you are rewarded with their fragrant white spring flowers. Their botanical name is a Latinization of the Japanese 'shikimi'.

You can enjoy your Japanese Skimmia indoors for a week or two, before it needs to be popped outside - either still in its pot on a garden terrace or directly into your flower bed.
